菊青海波文様
KIKU SEIGAIHA
[不老長寿・延命長寿・繁栄]
菊の花を唐草状に組み合わせた文様。薬草として伝来した菊は不老・延命長寿の意味があり、四方八方に蔓を伸ばす唐草は繁栄の意味をあらわしています。

[Immortality, Longevity, Prosperity]
A pattern featuring chrysanthemums arranged in a scrollwork design. Chrysanthemums, introduced as medicinal herbs, symbolize immortality and longevity, while the scrollwork, extending its vines in all directions, represents prosperity.

花唐草文様
HANA KARAKUSA
[繁栄・長寿・豊穣]
花と唐草を組み合わせた装飾文様です。蔓草の生命力が強くどこまでも広がりを見せる様子から繁栄を象徴する縁起の良い文様です。

蛸の足を思わせる渦巻き模様が特徴の蛸唐草文様。途切れることなく蔦をのばしている様子から繁栄・長寿・多幸などの意味をあらわしています。

STEP 01

型作成

Pattern creation

和紙を柿渋で加工した紙紙に柄の絵柄を写し取り、小刀で彫り抜きます。彫り抜いた紙に紗を貼り、型紙を完成させます。

Pattern designs are transferred onto paper treated with persimmon tannin, then carved out with a small knife. Gauze is affixed to the carved paper to complete the stencil.

STEP 02

型付け

Pattern Assignment

紙を枠に張り折りたたんだ生地の上にヘラで防染糊を付けます。糊を付けた部分以外が染料で染められます。

Apply resist paste with a spatula onto the folded fabric stretched over the frame using the pattern. Only the areas not covered with paste will be dyed with the dye.

STEP 03

染め

Dyeing

型付された生地に染料を注ぎ、染色します。布地を返して裏側も同様に染めることで、裏表が同じ仕上がりに。

Pour dye onto the patterned fabric to dye it. Turn the fabric over and dye the reverse side in the same manner to achieve a uniform finish on both sides.
